What We Provide

  • Information line about retirement living options, rights and responsibilities
  • Information sessions for community groups about residents’ rights and responsibilities
  • Legal advice for residents living in or exiting a retirement village or manufactured home park
  • Social work assistance including brief counselling, safety planning, support coordination and case management for complex situations
  • Legal representation during negotiations, dispute resolution and QCAT for disadvantaged and vulnerable residents with complex issues (where resources permit)
  • Consultation on legal and system reforms
  • Self help resources

How It Works

Appointment required

Operates from Caxton and provides phone services Qld-wide

Uses a multidisciplinary approach with lawyers and social workers collaborating on joint case management where there are complex barriers to getting help

Impact & Outcomes

Assisted residents with these issues:

  • right to modify their home to meet the needs of a physical impairment
  • right to have a live-in carer or to have a carer come at particular times
  • negotiate reasonable adjustments for clients with mental health conditions
  • right to keep an assistance animal in their home
  • negotiate with a park owner to withdraw breach notices
  • negotiate a fair sale price for their home
