How long have you been volunteering for and what made you want to get involved?
Since the start of 2015. I recognise that there is a gap between Legal Aid Queensland and private firms – Caxton assists in filling this gap so it’s about helping out/giving back.
What are the benefits of volunteering at Caxton?
- Giving back
- Seeing a direct positive link between outcomes/clients
- As a reminder that the gap that exists still continues – there’s a need to fill it.
Is the volunteer role very different to your day job?
Not so different. As a criminal lawyer I am constantly providing advice to a number of clients.
Any advice for someone considering coming on board as a volunteer?
To come on board! It is so important for lawyers to assist CLCs where we can and give back.
