The Queensland Retirement Village and Park Advice Service (QRVPAS) has released a range of videos focusing on legal issues in manufactured home parks and retirement villages.
The videos are targeted at residents (or prospective residents) who want to learn about their legal rights and how to enforce them.
Before COVID-19, our QRVPAS team travelled to deliver face-to-face community education sessions at retirement villages, manufactured home parks and community groups around Queensland. However in 2020, social distancing requirements meant that we had to cancel our face-to-face sessions, and instead have been able to spend time expanding our range of fact sheets and creating video content in lieu of face-to-face sessions.
QRVPAS senior lawyer Brittany Smeed explains “Creating these videos provided an opportunity for QRVPAS to provide more detailed legal information on issues that affect our clients.
“Each video focuses on a specific topic which is relevant to village or park residents, and discusses the law and how it can be applied to resolve disputes.
“The depth of information we have been able to include in these videos is more than we can usually provide during our public information sessions, which are very general in nature to cater to a wide audience. Now, people can choose to watch the videos that are most relevant to their situation.
“We hope these videos will be a valuable resource for home owners, residents and people considering their retirement living options in Queensland, and will build on the existing fact sheets that are also available on our website.”
The videos can be accessed via the Caxton Legal Centre Youtube channel or here; https://caxton.org.au/how-we-can-help/qrvpas/
Caxton Legal Centre can also provide copies of these video resources via USB or DVD to community groups, parks, villages, home owners committees and residents committees on request. Please contact our office on 07 3214 6333 to request a USB or DVD.
