Wendy has worked in numerous settings such as coordinator of an advocacy program for parents with hearing impaired or deaf children, drug and alcohol detox coordinator, kids helpline counsellor, gambling help educator, HIV/aids counsellor.
Most of Wendy’s work has been in areas that come with social marginalisation and shame. She feels strongly about social inclusion and fairness. To deal with these issues well Wendy often uses humour therapeutically to lighten the topic. She has also performed some ‘stand up’ to bring awareness to social issues such as drug and alcohol use and the bizarre nature of some aspects of human society. This is an effective way, she believes, of changing mindsets without confronting long held prejudices.
