The Older Persons Advocacy and Legal Service (OPALS) at Caxton Legal Centre has recently kicked off a partnership with the World Wellness Group, (WWG) a multicultural health and wellbeing service located in Stones Corner.
WWG provides a range of health services including tailored, pro bono medical and nursing care. WWG also provides mental health therapy and support, psychosocial assistance, allied health care, system navigation and non-legal and legal advocacy and assistance.
The service has a strong focus on refugees, people seeking asylum, and vulnerable migrants, with a Queensland wide helpline available on 1300 079 020.
The new OPALS X WWG health justice partnership aims to provide an elder abuse service specifically for the culturally and linguistically diverse community. This will include targeted education to WWG service staff and other multicultural health and support agencies, as well as legal support for individuals.
OPALS has particular expertise in elder law including decision making, personal and financial safeguarding and family agreements. Staff include lawyers and social workers and all assistance is free and confidential.
This is OPALS first partnership with a specialist primary health care service. Yasmin Ildes, lawyer and new to the OPALS team, will be based at WWG.
Referrals can be made to Yasmin Ildes on 0400 961 090 or Yasmin.ildes@caxton.org.au.
